1. What if I played college basketball?
2. What if I’d visited Amsterdam sooner?
3. What if I never walk away from it all?
Packing& taking a stroll down memory lane with my first ever copy of SLAM Mag. I’ve read this issue so many times I can name half the editorials from memory: Scoop’s letter to KG, Amare still young and still on the Suns, this kid from Marquette named Dwayne who was easy on the eyes and hard on the hardwood, and best of all, Hook Mitchell. What an issue!
I literally grew up enthralled and obsessed with SLAM. It was my introduction to And1, to Royal Elastics (long before my good friend Eddie took the design helm), to the existence of swear words in magazines and to Atiba Jefferson’s brilliant eye. I’ve joked with the guys about the impact the magazine has made on my life, but I doubt I’ll ever be able to really articulate it. I’ve kept every single copy since I started subscribing the summer of ‘03. They’ve moved with me from Cupertino to San Jose to LA, and now back. My folks must think I’m an absolute idiot for hanging onto outdated issues that I rarely glance at anymore, but they just don’t get it… This magazine changed my life. It drove my passion for basketball beyond the sports arena into lifestyle arguably set the stage for where I am today. Thank you to my favorite editors Scoop, Russ, Lang and Ben for some incredible memories. You guys hold a really nerdy, special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. One day, these will all be proudly displayed in an enormous, well curated home library. For now, they return back to my parents garage.
Asian breezies, go submit your tatas (or lack there of) to EYLTH and represent. Pretty faces suffice as well. #THATISALL.
Thanks Dallas News for keeping me updated 35,000ft up. This is the best graduation present I could’ve never asked for!
Fran is a huge Laker fan, but at least he keeps it real on all other subjects. Next person to blow up my timeline about “going hard” in Vegas is getting a roundhouse kick to the face.

15. Your Zodiac & Does It Fit?
January 27th: Aquarius
Abosu-freaking-letely. My entire horoscope is so on point (except the ‘unemotional’ and ‘detached’ part) that it’s scary. There have even been instances where I meet new people, and they guess my sign based on my personality; not a bad thing considering Aquarius’ get along with just about everyone! :)

In other basketball news, Lakers Fall 0-2 To The Mavs. Fingers crossed Dirk & JJ can carry this momentum through the next week… Basketball Gods - I promise never to ask for anything ever again ;)
Derrick Rose Youngest Player in NBA History To Win MVP. So well deserved. If the Celtics don’t take it all the way, I’m rooting for the Bulls ‘cuz of this guy. The burden of MJ’s legacy & a franchise on his shoulders at 22. Amazing.
Alexander McQueen at the MET. Can’t wait to see it.
Congrats to Amy & the rest of the Coolhaus crew! Well deserved.
The beloved Coolhaus ice cream truck flurried into New York last week. Already a smash among food cart-raiding design geeks in L.A. and Austin, Coolhaus flogs fancy ice cream sandwiches named punnily after hot-shot starchitects, like the Frank Behry and the Mies Vanilla Rohe.
13. Your Opinion About Your Body & How Comfortable You Are With It
Over the years I’ve grown increasingly comfortable with being in my own skin. I’ve become aware of what looks bad, good and better (miniskirts+skinny jeans, maxi dresses, destroyed, cuffed boyfriend denim) to compliment my flaws & accentuate my strengths. That being said, my natural body shape mirrors those of the women on my dad’s side of the family - voluptuous and tall. HAHA. I hit the gym hard regularly and try to watch what I eat to stay at least somewhat toned. I used to be miserable that I wasn’t a flat, stick thin size 0 like all the other Asian girls I knew, but that got old real quick. While I’d love to have a perfect dancer or yogi physique, my genetics simply won’t allow for it so I try to stay in as best shape as I can, in accordance with my current muscle mass & height (5’10). The only aspect that I’m horrifically self-conscious about and hate are my legs/calves. I’ve had nightmares ever since my basketball coach in high school nicknamed me Calvzilla Jr. :/ A 23” vert was cool at the time, but being able to wear boots or short skirts would be much cooler now…
fresh off my second redeye flight in 24hrs. exhausted. caffeinated. sprinting to keep up with the big dogs.
