When I was little, my mom would very rarely buy me the original Pocky as a reward for something I’d done. It was an “expensive” treat so it really only happened once in a blue moon. As I got older, Pocky somehow still maintained that aura of awesomeness. It really wasn’t all that expensive but I only bought it on special occasions.
Then, through high school and the beginning of college I began scouring Asian supermarkets in whatever city I happened to be visiting for the most obscure and rare flavors of Pocky. One of my closest friends at that time was just as weird as I was, so we’d find these unique boxes and scrapbook the packaging. Since both of us are freaks about design, it ended up being a pretty badass collage of Pocky design and packaging.
We always got so excited when we came across a new flavor we hadn’t tried - he even went so far as to order Asia exclusive flavors online and have them shipped to the States. We always tried to get at least three boxes of each flavor (one to eat, one to scrapbook and one for the ‘archives’). There were several times I spent well over $100 at the grocery store on Pocky alone.
The girls who lived in my dorm freshman year of college all joked about my intense Pocky “collection,” as they’d call it. My mom would ship a few boxes to me in care packages and I’d hunt around LA for weird flavors. Everyone loved these convenient little snacks so we’d drink imported teas and munch on Pocky while catching up on gossip. I was by far the most “Asian” of our hall so I guess this was like, their window into my culture. HAHAHA.
OKAY it’s not like I would actually set aside time in my day to hunt for Pocky. NO. I’m not THAT weird. I’d just make it a point to go down the candy aisle at grocery stores and see what they offered. That’s all. LOL. If there were extra special ones (winter edition, tiramisu flavor, etc) I’d buy a few more boxes and set them aside for care packages to PL. But that’s another story…
Charles & Hudson | Seeking Fall Interns →
My friend Tim, the founder of Charles & Hudson is looking for someone awesome and reliable to take on the position of “intern”. Both him & his wife are wonderful people with creativity spurting from every pore. Guaranteed to be fun and a great learning experience!
finally a moment to breathe and what do I do? clean my giant monstrosity of a desk. three weeks of relative calm before the surge before finals and I’m feeling refreshed already. super focused on updating my resume, building a website and hitting the pavement daily.
here’s to being the epitome of an old woman stuck in a young girl’s body! xx
Emanuel Ungaro branch heels I missed out on a few years back due to not realizing a) the importance of buying beautiful shoes when they’re on sale and b) that what comes around once does not come around twice. These were one of the first pairs of stilettos that epitomized a perfect balance of art, beauty, and (possibly?) comfort to me. The only other pairs that have come close are: 1) Kirkwood for Rodarte waxed heel (the heel lights up like your favorite light up sneakers from 3rd grade) and 2) Dsquared 160mm nappa spine heel boots. Both outlandish, but understated enough to be worn on a regular occasion.
Random side note: my life, like history, is divided into two sections - BSCMTMR and ASCMTMR. Before/After Shoes Cost More Than My Rent. Priorities, right?
blinding light
geesus christ. how did the light at the end of the tunnel suddenly turn into this blinding high beam that’s now distracting me from the work at hand? in the span of 15 minutes, i received a phone call, a bbm, two hugs and a text message that all proceeded to pick up my mood even more than before. to have a slew of industry heavyweights willing to look over my resume and make recommendations to some of the top agencies/corporations in NY is beyond empowering. to see a Disney Imagineer (and the professor who helped me start threesixtwo) with a huge smile on his face & want to catch up is beyond inspiring. to catch up with an old friend about adventures overseas and how well mutual friends are doing is beyond beautiful.
to experience this all within in a span of 15 minutes is beyond mind-blowing. my generally optimistic, more-cheery-than-not ass is on the brink of empowered/inspired/happy overload. i live for moments like this. when the energy aligns and everything feels right in the world. when you feel like you’ll unstoppable at twenty years young. when you can see dreams turn to reality in front of your very eyes. when impossible is nothing. when the absolute shit show of a first half of the week feels like it was months ago.
ironically enough, im writing a Daoism paper on the natural balance of life. back to that now. xo
light at the end of the tunnel
i swear this is my last look at tumblr before commencing my final two papers for the week. so excited to turn these bad boys in tomorrow knowing that no matter what, ive aced 3/5 of my midterms and am on my way to scoring at least a 3.8 in my final semester. YES. but im even more excited for fish tacos (i can no longer imagine living in a city without mexican food) with one of my favorite angeleno transplants. the smartest, most beautiful and down to earth woman i know. shes moving to sf the same weekend neil and i will be in town for his gig but im looking forward to helping her pack up her little studio in the heart of hollyhood and reminiscing on all the good times we’ve had in the last year and a half together. think sex in the city with more intelligence and less shoes. finally, to add to the already exploding excitement scale, ive got brunch with big bro ernie planned for saturday morning in irvine and a full weekend of debauchery (and eating) with my best friend in the whole wide world in san diego. goodness! so. fucking. excited. these are just three of the amazing, wonderful, insightful individuals who’ve kept me sane the last three years in los scandalous. i love them all and im happy to finally be spending a stress free weekend with them all. i have a feeling that if these next few months are indeed going to be my last in the city of angels, ill be doing a lot of brunches/lunches/dinners with friends. and i aint mad at that at all.
be well, tumbloves and speak soon. xo
threesixtwo →
i rarely reblog inspiring photos on tumblr ‘cuz they usually go to this little bad boy instead. what started off as a homework assignment now is on my resume. HAHA. for that reason alone im cutting down on the number of beautiful naked girls and posting more actually inspiring content. anyway. tumblr is my little online space to hear myself talk, so heres your cue to ‘unfollow’ if youre not ready for that. have a wonderful wednesday :) xoxo

Still debating between the old world charm of Rome, Milan, Monaco and Barcelona versus the new world indulgence of Tokyo for my birthday next year.
