“Steve Jobs Eulogy of the Day: The eulogy that Steve Jobs’ sister, Mona Simpson, gave at his memorial service at the Memorial Church of Stanford University was published today in the New York Times.
In the eulogy, Simpson talks about meeting her brother for the first time, his work as an innovator, his philosophy of aesthetics, his illness, and the life he lived with his family.
It portrays Jobs not just as a widely revered innovator and CEO, but as a person who was humble, whimsical, and always interested in learning.
“This had to be done. Even now, he had a stern, still handsome profile, the profile of an absolutist, a romantic,” Simpson said of the moments leading up to his passing. “His breath indicated an arduous journey, some steep path, altitude.”
She says at the very end of the eulogy:
Steve’s final words, hours earlier, were monosyllables, repeated three times.
Before embarking, he’d looked at his sister Patty, then for a long time at his children, then at his life’s partner, Laurene, and then over their shoulders past them.
Steve’s final words were:
OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.

JFK ✈ SFO ✈ NRT ✈ ZRH ✈ JFK. Around the world and back with my better half to commemorate putting up with each other for a long ass time… and getting through some rough patches together. No one else in the world I’d rather do this with. "We used to use umbrellas to face the bad weather… so now we travel first class to change the forecast."
My girl Christine… marketing guru with killer style. Beyond blessed to call her one of my first friends even before I moved to NYC.
Rumi’s style is absolute perfection… but only if you’re 5’10 and 110lbs. If you’re me and have the slightest curvature of a butt/ calves/ boobs, the all-skinny-everything look doesn’t work. Except this. I love this. I would mirror this forever, messy ponytail and all.
This is my self proclaimed #latepass on West One. Beautiful work… like a mix of Jose Parla, Chris Lundy and the old Chinese paintings I bought in Zhang Jia Jie last summer. Thanks EC for putting me on!
